Music & Your Health- The cure to the common cold?

Vitamin C that SoCal Entertainment Offers
Everyone knows the winter months are notorious for sickness, colds, flus etc. It is also known that preventative care can lessen your chance at contracting one of these inconvenient and  undesirable illnesses. Everything from Vitamin C to hand washing habits is covered on the preventative check list, but what about music?

As mental health impacts the outcome of our physical health, SoCal is pleased to provide a finding from Medical News todaystates: Playing and listening to music benefits both mental and physical health. The finding came from the first-large scale review of 400 research papers in the neurochemistry of music which found that music can improve the function of the body's immune system and reduce levels of stress(who doesn't have stress around the holiday season?- if you raise your hand here, please share your secret).
PsychologyToday also shares: Researchers in Europe have made a breakthrough discovery that listening to your favorite music triggers biological changes that improve the lining of your blood vessels (endothelial fu.nction) and reduces the risk of heart disease. The researchers found that combination of physical activity while listening to your favorite music improved endothelial function exponentially. There is not an 'ideal' music for everybody and patients should choose music which increases positive emotions and makes them happy or relaxed."

So remember the next time you are belting out your favorite song at the stoplight you are just promoting good health. ;)
Have a happy and healthy holiday music fans!

Did You Forget Someone on Small Business Saturday?

According to Wikipedia - "Small Business Saturday is an American shopping holiday held on the Saturday after Thanksgiving during one of the busiest shopping periods of the year. First observed on November 27, 2010, it is a counterpart to Black Friday and Cyber Monday, which feature big box retail and e-commerce stores respectively. By contrast, Small Business Saturday encourages holiday shoppers to patronize brick and mortar businesses that are small and local.

These small and local companies stick it out among the larger contenders all year long and finally rightfully are put into the spotlight one day out of the year. Although the concept couldn’t come with better intentions, there are still local companies that tend to be left out of the limelight. These companies, groups or individuals typically fall under the category of local entertainment; however they are in fact still small businesses.
Companies like SoCal Entertainment provide local entertainment such as karaoke, DJ or live trivia on a weekly basis. By coming out to the shows, locals can show support and unwind while participating in local entertainment.  Local bands, artists and even comedians are also members of the somewhat forgotten.  Small Business Saturday is a positive and necessary event within each local community to encourage shoppers to support the mom and pop locations, however let’s not forget that not every small business comes in the same package.  Let’s remember to support both local business and local  entrepreneurs to  include everyone on this particular day!

Vendor Spot Light: Buffalo Wild Wings aka B-dubs

 Buffalo Wild Wings aka B-Dubs

SoCal Entertainment is proud to perform every Tuesday night (9PM-1AM) at Buffalo Wild Wings in Danville, VA.

We wanted to take a moment to shed some spotlight on what makes this particular location stand out from all the others.

One of a kind Staff :  Attentive as with any B-dubs facility, this staff is a mixed bag of characters that will have you laughing or chatting up with them as fast as they serve you your drink.

One of a kind Drinks:  The skilled and creative bartenders (ask for Jon*) have a knack for coming up with something for everyone.  Some of the drinks may have some out of the box names but they are out of this world tasty.

Loud but Laid Back Atmosphere: Don't be afraid to bring in a group and have a great time as long as its in a respectful manner. The location can more than compensate with a large outside patio and full bar.

Don't forget the Food is phenomenal: What better place to get wings than a wing joint? However if your not feeling chicken, try the flat bread, potato wedges with cheese or for the health fanatics, try the blackened chicken salad.

Football Fans Welcome: No matter what your team, head over to B-dubs to watch the game with other fans in a high energy and friendly environment.

We appreciate the opportunity to work with this staff and location every Tuesday night.
****This B-dubs has a 4 Star Rating!****

Karaoke Singer Sets Guinness World Record Record, Raises Money for Charity

“A man in Wilmington, NC recently set a new Guinness World Record for the most continuous hours of karaoke singing. He sang for 39 hrs. and 2 mins., besting the previous record by just over an hour. While my first thought was, I wonder what instrumental breaks he used for trips to the men’s room, my second thought was almost as practical: How do you come up with a 39-hr. set list?”

Karaoke Song Suggestions for Beginners

For those of you who aren’t Karaoke veterans, sometimes the hardest part of committing to take the stage can be picking out your first song. Although I would personally suggest going with something you personally love, it’s also important to remember that karaoke is not always about being in the spotlight. It’s a great way to socialize, incorporate a group & live out your dream of being an entertainer. With that said, the following are a few song suggestions for karaoke newcomers.

1.       Sweet Caroline" by Neil Sedaka

2.       Hit Me With Your Best Shot" by Pat Benatar

3.       "Don't Stop Believing" by Journey

4.       "Summer Nights" from "Grease" soundtrack

5.       “Friends in Low Places” by Garth Brooks

6.        “ I Love Rock N Roll”- Joan Jett & the Blackhearts

What’s your go to karaoke song?
